Adoption

Thank you so much for your interest in adopting a rescue basset!! You are to be commended for seeking out a group such as ours. Our group can act as a resource for any follow-up issues or concerns the adoptive family might have. We provide an adoption support system that focuses on you and your Basset.

If you are located outside of our area, here is a link to the rescue list from the Daily Drool, a wonderful website dedicated to basset hounds. Locate your state in the left hand column to find the rescue group in your area.

Here is a link to bassethoundrescue.com. Click on 'Rescue Groups' in the left column. It will take you to a page that will ask you to click on your state.

If you cannot find a rescue organization in your area, be sure to check your surrounding states. Better yet - maybe you would consider starting a rescue group in your state?

Before You Adopt

Adopting a pet is an important decision that will affect the entire family. Any pet that you are considering making part of your family - whether it is from an animal shelter or from a rescue organization - is no longer in the place that he/she called home. This transition time is a very stressful time for any pet. They are in unfamiliar surroundings with people that they do not know. Some animals adjust very quickly. For some, it might take as long as 4 to 6 weeks to adjust to their new surroundings. In any case, we are looking for people who are willing to make a lifelong commitment to our dogs. Please consider adoption very carefully. Talk it over with every member of your family. A surprise pet does not make a good gift. Make sure that every member of the family is prepared for a new pet.
