Volunteering

Adopting or fostering a basset hound is not the only way you can help out! The following positions are other ways you can lend support to Basset Buddies Rescue!! Please look over the positions carefully, and if you feel there is something that you would be interested in, please complete and submit our volunteer interest form:

Foster Homes

  • Purpose: Provide a temporary home to bassets that are waiting to be adopted.
  • Responsibilities: Provide a safe environment (both indoor and outdoor). Evaluates the foster basset's temperament and behaviors. Evaluates for compatibility with an adoptive party including children and/or other pets in the home. Provide for basic health care and other daily needs of the basset. Costs of vet care will be covered by the rescue.
  • Time commitment: Based upon availability of the foster home volunteer. Need for foster homes vary, depending on number and timing of incoming dogs.

Transport

  • Purpose: Provide transport for foster dogs to/from permanent or foster homes, or other destinations as needed.
  • Responsibilities: Transports dogs safely and completes appropriate paperwork for each dog transported.
  • Time commitment: Based upon availability of the volunteer. One transport typically takes 2-4 hours. No overnight travel required.

Pet Store Canvasser

  • Purpose: PCreate a presence and raise awareness of breed rescue and responsible pet ownership through in-store advertising. Other aims of the canvasser are to solicit for volunteers, donations, and spark interest in adopting a homeless basset.
  • Responsibilities: Arrange visits to pet stores and provide information to customers on rescue, volunteer opportunities, etc. Forms and pamphlets will be provided.
  • Time commitment: Based on the availability of the volunteer. Ideally, one weekend day per month (approx. 4-6 hours) to be spent at area pet stores.

Flyer Placement

  • Purpose: Place flyers in pet stores and/or veterinary clinics which advertise Basset Buddies Rescue, Inc. The flyers will contain 'tear off' contact information for the organization.
  • Responsibilities: Arrange permission to hang flyers in appropriate place within pet store/clinic and monitor flyers for replacement. Flyers will be provided.
  • Time commitment: Based on the need to replace flyers. The need for replacement will vary depending on location of flyer. Approximately 1-4 hours per month.

Canister Placement

  • Purpose: Place donation canisters in neighborhood retail stores in order to collect donations.
  • Responsibilities: Arrange permission from area business owners for placement of donation canister and arrange for collection of money. Send check or money order for that amount to Basset Buddies Rescue, Inc.
  • Time commitment: Based on location of canisters and type of collection arrangement made with business. Approximately 1-4 hours per month.

Special Events

  • Purpose: Provide service as needed for special events such as Pet Expo's, and/or various gatherings of basset hound owners and families.
  • Responsibilities: Service will vary depending on event. May include but not limited to: set-up and/or tear down of booth or display; selling of raffle tickets; working information and/or sign in booth; other services needed.
  • Time commitment: We are planning several events for the upcoming year. Dates and times to be determined.

Home Visits

  • Purpose: To conduct a home visit of potential adopters and/or foster homes to insure a safe and loving environment for the placement of a basset hound.
  • Responsibilities: Arrange to visit the home of a potential adopter or foster home. Meet the person/family interested in the potential adoption/foster; answer any questions they might have regarding adoption/foster; evaluate the environment for proper placement.
  • Time commitment: As needed basis. The evaluation meeting will generally be less than one hour. Area covered to be determined.
